Best AI Overviews Keyword Rank Tracker: 7 Rank Trackers That Report Google AI Overviews (2026)

The best AI Overviews keyword rank tracker shows, for each keyword, whether Google shows an AI Overview and whether your page is cited in it. We compare seven rank trackers from what each vendor states, next to what Search Console reports for free. Checked on 31 October 2026.

The best AI Overviews keyword rank tracker is the one that answers three questions for every keyword you care about: does Google show an AI Overview for it, is one of your pages cited in that AI Overview, and how is that changing from week to week. Google Search Console answers part of this for free, but not keyword by keyword. Its generative AI report groups AI Overview and AI Mode impressions by page, country, date and device, and queries are not one of its dimensions. A rank tracker fills that gap by checking a fixed list of keywords, from a location and device you choose, on a schedule.

Seven rank trackers state on their own websites that they report Google AI Overviews for the keywords you track:

  • Semrush Position Tracking: flags the keywords that trigger an AI Overview and whether you appear in it, with daily updates
  • Ahrefs Rank Tracker: counts the AI Overview among the 19 SERP features it tracks, with a listed update frequency of weekly
  • SE Ranking: reports AI Overview presence and where your site sits within it, and keeps cached copies of the results page
  • AccuRanker: counts how many of your keywords trigger an AI Overview, how many URLs contribute, and whether yours is one of them
  • Advanced Web Ranking (AWR): adds an AIO Citation Rank, your order among the sources an AI Overview cites
  • Nightwatch: tracks AI Overview visibility next to your regular rankings, for you and your competitors
  • Keyword.com: shows which queries trigger AI Overviews and which of your URLs are cited, with an HTML snapshot of each result

Every vendor statement and price below was read on that vendor's own website, and every Google statement in Google's own documentation, on 31 October 2026. Each is linked where it is used. We have not run these tools side by side, so this compares what each vendor says about itself; it is not a test of accuracy. Prices and plan limits change often, so check them before you buy.

TopCited is a GEO platform with SEO included. It is not a keyword rank tracker, and none of the seven tools here is ours. Several of these vendors also sell AI search visibility products that compete with us. We report what each says about itself and set out where TopCited fits at the end. If you want tools that send conversational prompts to ChatGPT, Gemini or AI Mode rather than track keywords, see our guide to the best tools for monitoring AI Overviews.

Key definitions

TermWhat it means here
AI OverviewGoogle's AI-generated summary on a results page. Google describes it as "an overview with links to web resources that support the information."
TriggerWhether a query shows an AI Overview at all. Google says AI Overviews "are only shown when our systems determine that it is additive to classic Search, and as such, often don't trigger."
CitationOne of your pages appearing among the links an AI Overview shows.
Keyword rank trackerA tool that checks a fixed list of keywords on a schedule, from a location and device you choose, and records your position and the SERP features on the page.
Prompt trackerA tool that sends conversational prompts to AI assistants and records the brands they mention and the sources they cite. It measures a different thing from a keyword rank tracker.
AIO Citation RankAWR's name for the order in which a source appears among an AI Overview's citations.

The first two definitions quote Google's Search Console help on position and its guide to AI features and your website.

What Search Console already tells you, and what it doesn't

Start with Search Console. It is free, and it is Google's own count of what people actually saw.

  • The generative AI performance report. Google says that as of August 31, 2026 it has "rolled out these insights to all websites worldwide." The report covers impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, and lets you group them by pages, countries, dates or devices (Search Console Help). Queries are not on that list. So the report tells you which pages earn AI-feature impressions, but not which searches produced them. The usual 1,000-row table limit applies.
  • The Performance report. Sites that appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode "are included in the overall search traffic in Search Console", under the Web search type (Google Search Central). This report does have a queries dimension (Search Console Help). It does not separate an AI Overview impression from an ordinary result for the same query.
  • Position. "An AI Overview occupies a single position in search results, and all links in the AI Overview are assigned that same position" (Search Console Help). A citation inside an AI Overview therefore reports the AI Overview's position, not where your page would rank as an ordinary result. Average position is "the topmost position occupied by a link to your property or page in search results, averaged across all queries in which your property appeared." Our explainer on how Google lays out and counts the results page goes through these rules in detail.

So Search Console can tell you that a page earned AI Overview impressions. It cannot tell you which of your keywords show an AI Overview that cites a competitor instead of you. That is the job a keyword rank tracker does.

The limit also runs the other way. A tracker checks each keyword from one location and one device, on its own schedule. Search Console counts real impressions from real searches, and Google notes that for any single search "your position might be different than the average because of many variables, such as your search history, location, and so on." Use the tracker to see what is on the page for a keyword, and Search Console to see what actually reached people.

Keyword.comWhich queries trigger AI Overviews, which of your URLs are cited, the snippets used, an HTML snapshot of each resultWeekly or daily, by packagePriced by keywords, update frequency and AI credits

These prices are not like-for-like. Some are billed monthly and some yearly, and Nightwatch lists euro prices. AWR counts a keyword as one weekly check, so its keyword totals are not comparable with a daily tracker's. Some plans also include AI prompt tracking or a whole research suite, and others are rank tracking only. Read each section below before comparing them.

Each tracker in detail

Semrush Position Tracking

Semrush's rank tracking page says you can "track when your keywords trigger featured snippets, video carousels, AI Overviews, and local packs — and whether you appear in them" (Semrush). The same page describes daily ranking updates, mobile and desktop splits, ZIP-code-level local data, and up to 20 competitors tracked against the same keywords.

  • AI Overviews and prompts are tracked separately. Semrush's knowledge base describes Prompt Tracking, part of its AI Visibility Toolkit, as monitoring "a custom set of prompts across AI search platforms, including ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, and Gemini" (Semrush Knowledge Base). In AI Mode it treats the response area as position 1 and counts citations as positions 2, 3 and so on.
  • Price (Semrush pricing): the SEO plan is $139 a month and includes Position Tracking with 500 keywords tracked daily. SEO + AI Search Starter is $199 a month. Pro+ is $299 a month, raises tracking to 1,500 keywords and adds multi-location and device tracking. Annual billing saves up to 17%.
  • Best fit: teams already on Semrush, or anyone who wants daily AI Overview flags inside a full research suite.

Ahrefs Rank Tracker

Ahrefs' Rank Tracker page lists "19 SERP features. Including AI Overviews.", with mobile and desktop tracking and locations "from country, to city, to ZIP code" (Ahrefs). You can compare your site against 10 competitors.

  • Update frequency. The same page lists the Rank Tracker's update frequency as weekly. If you need to see daily movement in AI Overviews, confirm that with Ahrefs first.
  • Price (Ahrefs pricing): billed monthly, Lite is $129 a month with 750 tracked keywords, Standard is $249 with 2,000 and Advanced is $449 with 5,000. Ahrefs sells AI prompt tracking separately as Brand Radar AI, from $199 a month.
  • Best fit: teams already on Ahrefs who can work from a weekly view.

SE Ranking

SE Ranking's Rank Tracker page says it monitors "daily website positions across the top 100 results on Google, Bing, and YouTube on desktop and mobile," and shows "how your site shows up in ChatGPT, and AI Overviews" (SE Ranking). Its AI Overviews Tracker page adds three things:

  • Placement, not only presence: "Track AI Overview presence and see where your website ranks within it."
  • Daily history: day-by-day position changes in AI results for you and your competitors.
  • What the AI Overview said: "cached copies of search results with AI-generated answers", so you can read an old result again. The page also offers a free check of 5 keywords.

Price (SE Ranking pricing): Core is $129 a month billed monthly, or $103.20 a month billed annually, with 2,000 keywords tracked daily. Growth is $279, or $223.20 billed annually, with 5,000. Both include 25 AI prompts tracked daily across 5 AI engines, and there is a 14-day free trial with no card required.

Best fit: daily tracking with placement inside the AI Overview, at a mid-market price.

AccuRanker

AccuRanker says it "tracks how many of your keywords trigger an AIO, how many URLs contribute, and whether yours is one of them," and that you can export the AI Overviews to analyse their content (AccuRanker). It tracks 45+ SERP features, and its plans include daily keyword updates.

  • AI search beyond the results page. AccuLLM is a separate AccuRanker product. Its release log says AccuLLM covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and AI Mode (AccuRanker release log).
  • How common AI Overviews are in its data. The release log entry of 21 October 2026 says "AI Overviews now show on about 66% of the desktop results we track and on about 59% of mobile results." These are the keywords AccuRanker's customers track, not a sample of all searches.
  • Price (AccuRanker pricing): Professional is €249 or $249 a month billed monthly, or 224 a month paid annually, with 2,000 keywords and daily updates. Expert is 849 a month billed monthly, or 764 paid annually, with 10,000. The page lists the same figures in euros and US dollars.
  • Best fit: high-volume daily tracking, where you mainly need trigger and ownership counts across many keywords.

Advanced Web Ranking (AWR)

AWR's help centre describes AIO Citation Rank, a metric that "shows exactly where cited sources are positioned inside Google's AI Overviews" (AWR). Of the vendor pages we read, it is the only one that sets out how it orders the sources inside an AI Overview:

  • Sources in the visible sidebar are counted first, then the sources inside the response snippet.
  • A source users can see without clicking "Show more" is flagged as a Top AIO Source.
  • For its standard ranking value, AWR gives every URL in an AI Overview the same number, "since they are part of the single grouped search result". That matches the rule Search Console uses.
  • AWR says the metric "is included in all AWR plans", in projects that use either its Google Universal or its Google Search + AIO engine.

Price (AWR pricing): Pro is listed at $139 a month for 7,000 keywords, Agency at $279 for 14,500 and Enterprise at $699 for 35,500, and AWR says annual billing saves 10%. AWR defines a keyword as "one query made weekly for one search engine, for one device", and daily updates use seven times as many units. Pro's 7,000 units therefore cover 1,000 keywords checked daily. Every plan carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Best fit: anyone who has to report where in an AI Overview they are cited, not only whether.

Nightwatch

Nightwatch added AI Overview tracking on December 1, 2024. Its changelog says it "tracks your visibility in AI Overviews alongside regular keyword rankings" with no setup required (Nightwatch changelog). An Available SERP Features column shows AI Overviews among the other features. You can track competitors' visibility in AI Overviews and export AI Overview rankings.

  • Price (Nightwatch pricing): Starter is €79 a month billed yearly (€948 a year) for 500 keywords and 50 AI prompts. Professional is €159 a month for 2,500 keywords, and Agency is €399 for 7,500. Nightwatch says every plan includes every tool, with no per-seat fees. There is a 14-day free trial.
  • Best fit: small teams that want AI Overview visibility in the same table as their rankings, with nothing to configure.

Keyword.com

Keyword.com says its AI Overview Tracker "reveals which queries trigger AI Overviews, which of your URLs are cited, and how your presence evolves over time." It also gives "the exact URLs and snippets used in generative answers" (Keyword.com). Each AI Overview result "includes a verifiable HTML snapshot", and tracking goes down to city and ZIP code.

  • Price (Keyword.com pricing): packages are priced by the number of keywords, weekly or daily updates, and AI Visibility credits, so there is no single entry price to quote. The tracker page offers a 14-day trial with 100 keywords and 20 credits. Check which package includes the AI Overview Tracker before you buy, because the cheapest package is described as "Google SERP tracking only".
  • Best fit: agencies that need to show a client exactly what an AI Overview said.

How to choose: our recommendation

We have not tested these trackers side by side, so this is a pick by situation, built from what each vendor states.

  • You already pay for Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking. Start with the tracker you already have. Semrush and SE Ranking state daily updates, and Ahrefs lists weekly.
  • You must report where in the AI Overview you are cited. Pick AWR, which documents how it orders the sources. SE Ranking also says it shows where your site ranks within the AI Overview.
  • You need evidence a client or colleague can check. Keyword.com keeps an HTML snapshot of each AI Overview result, SE Ranking keeps cached copies of the results page, and AccuRanker lets you export AI Overview content.
  • You track thousands of keywords daily and need nothing else. Compare AccuRanker, Nightwatch and SE Ranking on price per keyword. AWR's keyword totals count weekly checks.
  • You have no budget. Use Search Console's generative AI report to find the pages that earn AI-feature impressions, and check a handful of their queries by hand.

How to set up AI Overview tracking, step by step

  1. Find the pages Google already uses. In Search Console, open the generative AI performance report and sort the Pages tab by impressions.
  2. List the queries those pages get. In the Performance report, filter to each of those pages and read the Queries tab. Treat these as candidates, because the Performance report does not separate AI Overview impressions from ordinary ones.
  3. Add the keywords you most want to win. Include product, comparison and "best" queries, even where you have no impressions yet.
  4. Match location and device to your customers. Set both as far as your tracker allows. A desktop check in one country says little about mobile searches in another.
  5. Turn on the AI Overview view. Enable the AI Overview or SERP features column, so each keyword shows whether an AI Overview appeared and whether you were cited.
  6. Add the competitors that are cited instead of you. The sources an AI Overview cites in your place are the pages to study.
  7. Review once a week. Look for keywords that started or stopped triggering an AI Overview, and for citations gained or lost.
  8. Read the snapshot before you react. Where your tracker keeps a snapshot or a cached page, read what the AI Overview actually said before you change your own page.
  9. Check eligibility before optimizing. Google says a page must be "indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet" to be shown as a supporting link, and that there are no additional technical requirements. The nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet and noindex controls limit what can be shown (Google Search Central).
  10. Reconcile with Search Console every month. A tracker samples the results page; Search Console counts what people saw.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Reading an AI Overview citation as an organic ranking. In Search Console, every link in an AI Overview takes the AI Overview's single position.
  • Comparing numbers across tools. Each tracker checks from its own locations, on its own schedule, and describes placement in its own way.
  • Treating a vendor's trigger rate as your own. AccuRanker's figure of about 66% on desktop describes the keywords its customers track. SE Ranking's tracker page says "AI snippets appear for 64% of keywords", without a date. Your keyword list will differ, so measure it.
  • Reaching for new markup. Google says you "don't need to create new machine readable files, AI text files, or markup to appear in these features", and that there is "no special schema.org structured data that you need to add."

Where TopCited fits

TopCited is a GEO platform with SEO included, built to produce the work rather than only the report. It is not a keyword rank tracker.

  • AI answer monitoring. TopCited's content monitoring runs your query sets on a schedule you set (cron, with timezone support), records the brand mentions in the answers, and reports gap analysis and share of voice.
  • Rewrites, not issue lists. The CORE optimizer rewrites your existing content and scores it before and after, including keyword coverage.
  • A starting point. To see where you stand, request a GEO audit through the form on our site.

Use a tracker from this list to find the keywords where an AI Overview cites someone else. Use TopCited when you want the page that should be cited rewritten. Neither replaces Search Console, which is the first-party count that everything else should be checked against.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

It depends on what you need to see. Of the seven trackers we compared from their own websites on 31 October 2026, Semrush Position Tracking and SE Ranking state daily AI Overview tracking inside a full SEO suite; Ahrefs Rank Tracker tracks AI Overviews as a SERP feature with a weekly update frequency; Advanced Web Ranking documents an AIO Citation Rank for your order among the cited sources; AccuRanker and Nightwatch track AI Overviews alongside regular rankings; and Keyword.com keeps an HTML snapshot of each AI Overview result. We have not tested them side by side.

Not directly. The generative AI performance report shows AI Overview and AI Mode impressions grouped by page, country, date or device, and queries are not one of those dimensions. The Performance report has a queries dimension and includes AI Overview traffic under the Web search type, but it does not separate an AI Overview impression from an ordinary result for the same query. A keyword rank tracker fills that gap.

Google says an AI Overview occupies a single position in search results, and all links in it are assigned that same position. Clicking a link to an external page in the AI Overview counts as a click, and standard impression rules apply. So a citation reports the AI Overview's position, not where your page would rank as an ordinary result.

Google says AI Overviews are only shown when its systems determine they are additive to classic Search, and as such often don't trigger. AccuRanker's release log of 21 October 2026 says AI Overviews show on about 66% of the desktop results it tracks and about 59% of mobile ones, and SE Ranking's tracker page gives an undated 64% of keywords. Those figures describe the keywords those vendors' customers track. Measure your own list.

A keyword rank tracker checks a fixed list of Google keywords and records whether an AI Overview appears and whether you are cited in it. A prompt tracker sends conversational prompts to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode and records the brands they mention and the sources they cite. Semrush, for example, sells them separately: Position Tracking for keywords and Prompt Tracking in its AI Visibility Toolkit.

Daily shows an AI Overview appearing or dropping out within the week; weekly costs less. Semrush, SE Ranking, AccuRanker and Nightwatch state daily updates on their plans, Ahrefs lists a weekly update frequency, and on Advanced Web Ranking a daily check uses seven times the keyword units of a weekly one.

No. Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, that you don't need new machine-readable files, AI text files or markup, and that there is no special schema.org structured data to add. A page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet.

No. TopCited is a GEO platform with SEO included. Its content monitoring runs query sets on a schedule and reports brand mentions, gap analysis and share of voice, and its CORE optimizer rewrites existing content with before and after scores. To see which keywords show an AI Overview and whether you are cited, use one of the rank trackers in this guide alongside Search Console.
